John and Cindy McCainDuring John McCain’s 1992 Senatorial bid, his wife joined him on the campaign trail.  Instead of supporting her husband with words of encouragement during what was most definitely a trying and stressful time, Cindy McCain decided to insultingly comment on her husband’s hairline.

At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain’s hair and said, “You’re getting a little thin up there.” McCain’s face reddened, and he responded, “At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt.”

There’s no easier way to bring a man down than to make fun of his lack of hair.  Why not make a funny remark about his wonky arms or goitre?  That would have stung less.

Instead of shrugging her comment off or simply ignoring it, John McCain put his wife in her place with a witty retort, acknowledging that while he is not in control of his thinning hair, she can choose to put on less make up and look more like a woman than a clown.  Though his wife’s money likely gave him the means to run for public office, he didn’t allow that to get in the way of what was a fair response to an obviously mean spirited comment.

Because of his candor, John McCain is the creator of a Great Moment in Trollop History.
